Frequently asked questions.
Is therapy right for me?
People start therapy for many different reasons. Generally speaking, people want to feel better and make life feel more fulfilling. Therapy is an investment, and it is not always easy. It can uncover difficult emotions and memories, and can sometimes reveal our own roles in maintaining negative patterns. Facing challenges takes courage, even in a supportive environment. But doing so typically leads to improved outcomes.
How long does therapy take?
The duration of treatment depends on the nature of your challenges and your goals. In some instances, short-term therapy (a few weeks to a few months) may be appropriate, but therapy is not a race to the finish line. You and your therapist will periodically gauge how therapy is working for you and whether continued treatment is the right course.
What is the frequency and duration of sessions?
Most sessions are 45 minutes. Occasionally, arrangements for hour-long sessions can be made. Sessions are typically once per week. The frequency can be reduced to once every two or three weeks when difficulties and symptoms are in a well-managed place. At times, meeting more than once per week may be necessary or advantageous.
Can you prescribe medication if I need it?
As clinical psychologists, we cannot prescribe medication. However, medication can be a useful adjunct to psychotherapy, and if you and your therapist determine that medication may be helpful, we can refer you to one of several psychiatrists with whom we collaborate regularly. Your psychiatrist and therapist will regularly communicate to ensure therapy and medication are working together as harmoniously as possible.
Do you accept insurance?
We participate with the student health insurance at Georgetown University. We are not considered in-network providers for other insurance plans, however. Most insurance companies will provide partial reimbursement for therapy with out-of-network providers. We provide a monthly invoice that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement, and recommend that you find out what your out-of-network insurance entails before beginning therapy. Specifically, it is important to know what your deductible is and what rate of reimbursement you will receive once your deductible has been met.
What is the cost without insurance?
Cost per session will be set based on the level of expertise of the therapist. We are able to offer lower cost sessions with our supervised trainees when available and when deemed a good fit.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit card, cash, and check for ongoing appointments. We also accept Flex Spending.
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule appointments by phone at (646)-872-4225 or contact us at (findingforwardtherapy@gmail.com). Appointments are available during the day and evening, Monday through Friday.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you do not attend your scheduled appointment and we have not been notified at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full cost of the missed session.
